We made it!

870 kms / 540 miles (plus a few extra from navigational errors!) running in 5 countries. No injuries. Great friendships made both within our group and with our German counterparts.

A fantastic welcome from Giessen Oberb├╝rgermeisterin Dietland Grabe-Bolz and Giessen runners and Schwanenteich parkrun.

Over £3900 raised for Winchester Hospice.

Who are we?

  • A group of 19 Winchester runners
  • Formed from parkrun, WADAC (Winchester & District Running Club) and Worthy Runners
  • Women, men, girls and boys with ages ranging from 11 to over 60

What did we do?

  • A relay run from Winchester to our twin town: Giessen in Germany
  • 870km, 5 countries, 8 days
  • Starting in Winchester on 23rd August 2019
  • Supported by the mayors of Winchester and Giessen who launched the first leg and welcomed us at the finish
  • This was the return event to the run completed from Giessen to Winchester by German runners in October 2018

Why did we do it?

  • To promote good relations between the twin towns of Winchester and Giessen
  • To raise some money for a good cause: Winchester Hospice
  • To build friendship between different Winchester running groups
  • To face a challenge and have some fun!
